Abuja - The political turmoil in the Taraba State has taken a new twist after the Speaker of the House of Assembly, Haruna Tsokwa, vowed not to recognize Danbaba Suntai as Governor.
Tsokwa demanded the returning premier addressed members of the public to prove his fitness after about a year recovering from injuries sustained during a plane crash.
“The governor must come out and address the people of the state, failure to do so means that he is not yet fit to run the affairs of the state,” Tsokwa told journalists.
His sentiments come after Suntai sent a letter to inform the House of his return and his readiness to assume his position.
This agency learnt that the speaker decision has created factionalism within the House.
The Majority Leader of the House, Joseph Kunnini had earlier informed journalists that the governor would resume office since he had duly informed the House.
However, Tsokwa said while this was the case, the governor could not resume office pending members of the House deliberating on the letter.
“Until that is done, the Acting Governor, Alhaji Garba Umar, would continue to act in his capacity as the acting governor of our dear state.”
