Wike accused of derailing Buhari's presidential ambitions

10 August 2015, 08:38Okoro Chinedu

Lagos – The Rivers State Chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has fingered Governor Nyesom Wike in an alleged campaign of calumny against General Muhammadu Buhari in the run-up to the March presidential election.

Rivers APC Chairman, Dr Davies Ibiamu Ikanya, said the party was not surprised to discover that Wike was behind the alleged negative campaign against Buhari during the presidential campaign period in view of Wike’s character.

Ikanya alleged Wike was working in concert with a former Governor of Rivers State to derail the victory of Buhari, the APC candidate.

"Wike is a devious and treacherous character who would stop at nothing to achieve his purpose," Ikanya charged.

He alleged Wike, who could not be reached for comment, and his so-called henchmen used media to assassinate the character of Buhari and portray him as unelectable.

“Wike was the person who also encouraged and supported his friend, Governor Ayo Fayose of Ekiti, to sponsor the death-wish adverts against Buhari," alleged Ikanya.

"For Wike to have sunk more than N5 billion into that evil plot demonstrates his level of desperation to stop Buhari but God in His infinite love for Nigerians thwarted their conspiracy and installed Buhari as President,” Ikanya said.

“Just as Wike and his group failed to achieve their evil plot against Buhari, so they shall also fail in their campaign of calumny against Amaechi, as President Buhari will not be bamboozled by their fairy tales.”

Wike's government is probing former governor, Rotimi Amaechi, for alleged abuse of power during his tenure that ended earlier this year.
