Wike appeals tribunal judgment

05 November 2015, 11:10

Port Harcourt - Governor Nyesom Wike of Rivers State has appealed the judgment of the Rivers State Governorship Election Petitions Tribunal in Abuja which nullified his election, reports Thisday.

Wike is asking the Appeal Court to set aside the judgment of the tribunal, which nullified his election on October 24, 2015.

The tribunal in its judgment in the petition filed by the All Progressives Congress (APC) candidate, Dakuku Peterside ruled that there were corrupt practices and substantial non-compliance with the Electoral Act in the April 11 election which produced Wike as the governor.

In the appeal by his counsel, Emmanuel Ukala (SAN), the governor established 26 grounds of appeal wherein he raised complaint against the entire judgment of the lower tribunal.

Wike said the tribunal erred in law when it relied on hearsay and inadmissible evidence to nullify his election.

He joined the APC, Peterside and the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) and the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) as respondents.
