Wike dismisses alleged Amaechi tender deals

22 December 2014, 17:17Augustine Osayande

Abuja - The People’s Democratic Party (PDP) governorship candidate in next year’s election in Rivers State, Nyesom Wike, has denied receiving N3,5 billion contracts from the government of Chibuike Amaechi for the construction of a road and some classroom blocks.
The All Progressives Congress-affiliated governor, Amaechi, at the weekend alleged that he awarded 14 classroom blocks to Wike at the cost of N112 million each and another  contract worth N2 billion to construct Eneka road but he disappeared with the funds.

However, in a statement, Wike said the allegation was false and aimed at distracting attention from the alleged regrettable failure of the outgoing governor.

“The allegation is false in its entirety and simply aimed at distracting attention from the very regrettable failure of the outgoing governor to deliver democracy dividends to the people of Rivers State. Barrister Nyesom Ezenwo Wike was not awarded any contract by the outgoing governor of Rivers State,” the statement read.

It added that the nature of the alleged unfounded false allegation lays credence to the widely held view that the outgoing governor and his associates squander state resources through frivolous payments.

“This false allegation brings to the fore the rot in the management of Rivers State resources and why Rivers people have resolved to vote the APC out of governance in the state and vote in Barrister Nyesom Ezenwo Wike, who has a record of performance. Mr Amaechi should start compiling his hand over notes, as no amount of political blackmail propaganda false allegations will stop his impending defeat at the polls in 2015. By now, he ought to have realized that the same allegations he peddled did not stop him from losing the State PDP Machinery, before he fled into political exile.”

Wike accused the governor of spending the sum of N19 billion to fund the campaign of General Muhammadu Buhari, thinking he would be given the position of a running mate to the perpetual opposition Presidential Candidate and having been short-changed on that score, he has been appointed as the director general of Buhari Campaign Organization to further waste Rivers State Government resources in a project that is bound to fail.

“Amaechi is a failed governor whose only legacy is propaganda. He has nothing to show for the trillions of naira that have accrued to Rivers State under his supervision, other than engage in political mind games that have been of no benefit to the state. We must also state clearly, that Barrister Wike is a people-oriented politician with utmost respect for the traditional institution,” he said.
