Wike opposes permission for APC to inspect election materials

24 June 2015, 14:45

Port Harcourt - Governor Nyesom Wike of Rivers State has opposed request by the All Progressives Congress (APC) and its governorship candidate in the state, Dakuku Peterside, to be allowed to inspect the electoral materials that were used for the April 11 governorship poll in the state., reports Thisday.

Wike in a motion said that allowing APC and Peterside to examine card reader machines and voters’ register used for the election would provide them the opportunity to make copies and store their contents electronically.

He argued that allowing the petitioners to do so could compromise the secrecy of the ballot.

He asked the tribunal to set aside the ex-parte order for the inspection of the electoral materials, particularly the voters’ register and the card reader machines.

Chairman of the tribunal, Justice Muazu Abdulkadir Pindiga, has fixed July 6, 2015 for the hearing of the motion.
