Aggrieved PDP members move to stop National Convention

03 May 2016, 18:28

Abuja - The National Convention of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) scheduled to hold on May 21 in Port Harcourt, the Rivers State capital, may be aborted.

This is because some chieftains of the party have approached a Federal High Court in Abuja seeking an order to halt the convention.

The aggrieved members also asked the court to declare the processes of organising the convention as illegal, null and void.

They also want the National Working Committee (NWC) to step down immediately and allow the Board of Trustees (BOT) take charge of the party’s affairs.

In a suit No: FHC/ABJ/ CS/233/2016 filed by Dr. Ayodele Adebo for himself and on behalf of Concerned Members of the PDP, the plaintiffs claimed that the tenure of the NWC of the party elapsed on March 24, and therefore members of that committee had no business being in office now and organising the May 21 convention of the party.

The plaintiffs are seeking an order of injunction restraining members of the NWC from further parading themselves as national officers of the party.
