Akpabio rubbishes alleged PDP rift in Akwa Ibom

13 September 2016, 17:28

Abuja - Senate Minority leader, Godswill Akpabio, has denied any rift between him and Akwa Ibom Governor, Undom Emmanuel, who is his successor.

Speaking in Abuja at a recent event to celebrate the 50th birthday of Special Adviser to the governor on Security Matters, Captain Iniobong Ekong, Akpabio attributed the speculation to the governor’s so-called loyalists.

These have alleged Akpabio and a number of senators and House of Representatives were working against Emmanuel.

The former governor, who was at the helm for eight years until 2015, dismissed such speculation saying the members were “solidly” behind Emmanuel.

“The state is intact for him and that we are proud of what he is doing.

The 13 of us will remain steadfast with him beyond 2019,” said Akpabio.

The reports of rift suggested all was not well in the People’s Democratic Party in the state south of the country.
