Another court declares PDP caretaker committee illegal

24 May 2016, 16:42

Lagos - A Federal High Court sitting in Lagos has declared as illegal the Caretaker Committee of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), led by Ahmed Markarfi, reports Punch.

Makarfi was appointed last Saturday after Ali Modu Sheriff was removed as the National Chairman of the PDP at the National Convention of the party held in Port Harcourt, Rivers State.

The ruling is coming just few hours after a similar court in Port Harcourt, barred Sheriff and other members of the party's NWC removed during the convention from parading themselves as national officers of the party.

Justice Ibrahim Buba in his ruling declared the committee as invalid.

The judge directed the Inspector General of Police, Solomon Arase, to enforce his order, barring the members of the constituted caretaker committee from taking over the affairs of the party.

News 24 had reported that Sheriff had threatened to drag the leadership of the party to court over his removal from office.

Sheriff had described the decision at the National Convention in Port Harcourt as a nullity.

He described the caretaker committee as a contraption since there was nothing of such in the party’s constitution.
