11 August 2016, 15:57

Abeokuta - Ahead of local government elections slated for October 8 in Ogun State, the internal crisis rocking the All Progressives Congress (APC) in the state came to a head on Wednesday when two factions of the party held parallel primaries to elect a candidate forYewa-South local government, reports Punch.

A faction said to be loyal to the Governor of the state, Ibikunle Amosun, held its primary at the local government party secretariat while other faction believed to be loyal to the senator representing Lagos West at the Senate, Senator Olamilekan Adeola, held its primaries at Oba Kehinde Olugbenle pavillion.

Adeola’s group produced a Social Democratic Party (SD)P returnee, Bola Ajayi, while the governor’s group produced Jimoh Taiwo.

Yayi, a loyalist fo the national leader of the party, Bola Tinubu, is rumoured to be eyeing the governorship position in Ogun State in 2019.

Chairman of the party in the local government area, Tunji Idowu according to Thisday led Adeola factional primary while other executive members were at the party’s secretariat.

The Assistant Organising Secretary of the party, Salako Samson, alleged that the party chairman was working against the party’s interest in order to favour the governorship ambition of the senator.
