APC panel recommends fresh Ondo governorship primary

20 September 2016, 16:14

Abuja - The Ondo State All Progressives Congress Primary Appeal Committee has recommended the cancellation of the governorship primary held in the state on September 3, reports The Nation.

The poll was won by Rotimi Akeredolu, a former President of the Nigerian Bar Association (NBA).

The committee has recommended the conduct of a fresh primary for the governorship election.

The committee headed by Hellen Bendega also recommended that a rerun primary should be held immediately to beat the deadline set by the Independent National Electoral Committee (INEC).

The panel also suggested that the party’s national leadership should revert to the earlier delegates’ list, which was distributed to aspirants in Abuja, the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), shortly before the controversial primary.

A meeting of the party’s National Working Committee on the report was, however,  deadlocked as party leaders failed to reach a consensus.

The election according to News 24 was marred by controversy as several contestants and party leaders from the state alleged massive electoral fraud.

They alleged that the delegates list for the election was doctored and injected with non-executive members of the party.
