Appeal Court sacks another PDP senator

07 December 2015, 18:58

Enugu - The Court of Appeal sitting in Enugu has nullified the election of Senator Uche Ekwunife of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) as a senator, reports PM News.

Ekwunife represents Anambra Central Senatorial District in the Senate.

The court upturned the judgement of the Anambra State National Assembly Election Petition Tribunal, which had earlier upheld Ekwunife's victory in the March 28 election.

The candidate of the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA), Victor Umeh had approached the court to upturn the judgment of the election petition tribunal.

Delivering judgment in the case on Monday, the court held that the election petition tribunal erred in its judgment.

A lead judgement read by Justice Datijo Yahaya stated that the election of Ekwunife did not meet the prescription of the electoral act.

The judge then ordered that fresh election is held  within 90 days.
