Bello may replace Audu as APC Kogi governorship candidate

26 November 2015, 18:23

Lokoja - There are strong indications that the All Progressives Congress (APC) may likely picked Yahaya Bello as the party’s candidate in the Kogi state supplementary polls slated for December 5, reports Daily Trust.

Bello came second to the late Abubakar Audu in the party's governorship primary in September.

Although, the party’s national chairman John Odigie-Oyegun has said the party would organize a fresh primary to pick a replacement for Audu, it was learnt that party leaders do not intend to go ahead with the exercise, rather, the party would only make a substitution.

Bello was actually preferred by some top party leaders even above Audu, since Audu did not support President Muhammadu Buhari in APC’s presidential primaries last November

Audu supported the former Kano State Governor Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso in the presidential primaries.

Party leaders are not inclined to allow Audu’s running mate, James Faleke to pick the ticket because he did not contest in the governorship primary election.
