Benin City - Some Benin leaders under the aegis of Benin Leaders of Thought (BLT) on Tuesday cautioned Governor Adams Oshiomhole of Edo State against his perceived imposition of a preferred candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC) as his successor, reports Thisday.
The leaders warned against the re-introduction of godfatherism, which the governor fought against in the past which had earned him commendations.
There have been rumours that the governor has endorsed the aspiration of businessman, Godwin Obaseki, who is the Chairman of his economic team and chairman of Afrinvest Limited, as his successor.

Addressing a press conference in Benin City, BLT’s chairman, Edun Akenzua, said members of the group do not believe the rumour that governor had anointed an aspirant to succeed him, adding that such intention could be a re-introduction of godfatherism that the people no longer want.
The group noted that the governor has the right to support any aspirant of his choice but such right must be exercise in a manner that also respects the right of other people to freely choose who will govern them.
The leaders said the people of Edo state should be given free hands to determine their next governor.
