Biafra inaugurates electoral commission

05 January 2016, 10:38

Owerri - One of the groups agitating for a breakaway Biafra Republic, Biafra Independence Movement (BIM) has set up its own electoral commission to supervise elections into various offices when Biafra gains autonomy, reports Vanguard.

The electoral commission is known as the Biafra Independent National Electoral Commission (B-INEC).

The commission will be chaired by a Catholic Priest, Rev. Fr. Samuel Aniebonam.

Leader of BIM, Ralph Uwazuruike said the formation of B-INEC is in line with BIM’s principle of non-violence towards establishing a sovereign control over the territorial boarders of the new Biafra.

Uwazuruike was the founder of the Movement for the Actualisation of the Sovereign State of Biafra (MASSOB) before he renamed it BIM.

B-INEC’s first election would be the conduct and supervision of the internal election into all the offices of BIM on February 22, 2016.
