Biafra postpones elections

Owerri - The Biafra elections scheduled to hold on February 22 have been postponed indefinitely, reports NewsDay.

Ralph Uwazuruike, leader of Biafra Independence Movement (BIM) who announced the indefinite postponement of the elections, said the shift was to enable the body make adequate consultation.

Uwazuruike, who spoke in Owerri on Monday also announced the postponement of the fasting and prayer sessions for the group.

He, however, reiterated that the scheduled elections would be different from that of the Nigerian government.

He said the planned Biafra elections would be by open ballot system popularly known as Option A4.

The group had earlier announced that elections will be held in wards, provinces, districts, regions and zones of the South- east and South-south zones, which are said to be part of the Biafra territories.

It had named a Catholic priest, Rev. Fr. Samuel Aniebonam, as Chairman of the electoral body, the Biafra Independent National Electoral Commission (B-INEC).
