Abuja - The Anambra State Commissioner for
Women’s Affairs, Victoria Chikwelu, has refuted reports Ebelechukwu Obiano, the
wife of the governor of Anambra State, physically attacked her.
She denounced such reports as “unbelievable rumours” and
“I wish to dissociate myself from the efforts of the
shadowy characters behind this campaign, who hide under the thick anonymity of
the Social Media to destroy the hard-earned reputation of prominent citizens
whose only fault is that they are in public office,” said Chikwelu.
“The cruel gossip alleging that I was physically
assaulted by Chief Obiano (Osodieme) is one of the unkind attempts to cast
doubts on the character of an innocent woman whose passionate commitment to
bringing succour to the less privileged members of the society has been widely
acclaimed as exemplary.”
She said as the Commissioner for Women Affairs in Anambra
State, her schedule of duty was clear and distinct with minimal interface with
the office of the wife of the governor.
She said on the rare occasions where there had been
overlaps, the collaborations were smooth and cordial without the slightest
