Court rejects tenure elongation of LG chairmen in Nasarawa

24 March 2016, 22:19

Lafia - A Nasarawa State High Court sitting in Lafia, has ruled against a suit filed by local government council chairmen in the state, who wanted the court to elongate their tenure from two to three years.

Presiding judge of the High Court 4, Justice James Abundaga,in his ruling on the case struck out the case for lack of merit.

The judge, who based his argument on Section 7 Sub Section 1 of the 1999 Constitution of the Federal Republic Nigeria as amended, held that running of local government councils by whether sole administrators, caretaker ‎committee or in the past, directors of personnel management was unconstitutional.
