Court stops PDP National Convention

Lagos - A Federal High Court sitting in Lagos has stopped the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) from conducting elections into the offices of the National Chairman of the party, the National Secretary and its National Auditor, reports Premium Times.

The party is planning to hold its national convention in Port Harcourt, Rivers State on Saturday, May 21.

NewsDay reports that the order restraining the party from conducting the elections followed a case brought before the court by the National Chairman of the party, Senator Modu Sheriff; the National Secretary, Prof. Wale Oladipo; and the National Auditor, Fatai Adeyanju, who were listed as 1st, 2nd and 3rd plaintiffs in the case..

The three national officers reportedly claimed in the suit that their tenures of office was yet to lapse.

The substantive case has been adjourned till May 24, 2016.

But Sheriff has flatly denied being a party to the suit.

Sheriff, who got the nod of party leaders on Tuesday to contest the seat as the sole candidate said he was not aware of the suit.

Sheriff said he did not authorize anyone to go to court on his behalf.
