Delta APC crisis deepens

16 September 2016, 16:13

Asaba - The crisis rocking the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Delta State has deepened as some elders and leaders of the party on Thursday sacked the current executives of the party in the state

The elders has set up a caretaker committee to pilot the affairs of the party until a substantive executive is put in place by the national leaders of the party, reports Sun

The party in the state has not known peace since April 2014 when the state working committee led by the Chairman, Prophet Jones Erue was elected at a disputed congress in Asaba.

A High Court sitting in Asaba had in 2005 dissolved the Erue-led executive committee on the ground that the congress was not conducted in consonance with the guidelines for party congresses and the party’s Constitution.

The judgment was, however appealed and the case is still in court.

However, a faction of the party led by Senator Spanner Okpozo on Thursday appointed  Nathaniel Omo-Onyeke and Dennis Nwanokwai  to act as caretaker chairman and secretary, respectively.

Okpozo, a second republic senator, said the decision was taken in order to move the party forward so as to wrest power from the ruling People Democratic Party (PDP) in the state in 2019.
