10 November 2015, 16:11

Yenagoa - As part of efforts to achieve smooth conduct of the forthcoming governorship election in Bayelsa State, Gov. Seriake Dickson and Timipres Sylva of the All Progressives Congress (APC) along with 18 other governorship candidates, have agreed to sign a peace accord, reports Vanguard.

The accord, which was facilitated by Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) in collaboration with the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP), is expected to be signed on Tuesday.

The peace accord is to extract the commitment of the parties and their candidates to a peaceful poll devoid of rancour and bloodletting

Also expected at the event are the state commissioner of police, Director SSS, head of other security agencies, traditional/religious ruler, leading civil society organisations, the media and other stakeholders.

Timidi Wariowe, Head of Department, Voter Education/Publicity of INEC, said the commission had already notified all the political parties to come along with their governorship candidates to sign the peace deal.
