02 August 2016, 12:42

Benin City - The immediate past senator who represented Edo South Senatorial District at the National Assembly, Senator Ehigie Uzamere on Monday announced his defection from the Peoples Democratic Party to  the All Progressives Congress (APC), reports The Nation.

This was the second time Uzamere was defecting from the PDP to another party.

He first was in 2010 to the defunct Action Congress of Nigeria (ACN), to secure the party’s ticket for a second term in the Senate.

He returned to the PDP in 2014, after a disagreement with Governor Adams Oshiomhole over a Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC) appointment.

Senator Uzamere who was in the Senate between 2007-2015, is the only senator from the Edo South senatorial district who had spent two terms in the Senate, since the creation of the state, reports News 24

Uzamere disclosed that his defection to the APC followed the invitation extended to him by the leadership of the APC in Edo South led by the state secretary of the party, Osaro Idah; former deputy governor of the state, Lucky Imasuen, Lawrence Orkar and several others.

He said that he decided to resign his membership of the PDP following the crisis rocking the party.
