#EdoDecides: APC denies masterminding postponement

09 September 2016, 17:17

Benin City - The All Progressives Congress (APC) has denied masterminding the postponement of Saturday's governorship election in Edo State, reports The Nation

The party said the postponement of the election did not add any value to activities of the party in preparation for the poll.

The party was reacting to the allegation by the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) that the poll was postponed to give the APC more time to campaign.

The PDP had immediately after the shift was announced by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) on Thursday argued that there was no justification to tamper with the election as initially scheduled.

The PDP according to News 24 said the shift in the poll signals a bad omen for the nation’s democracy.

The party described the postponement as not only illegal but also unconstitutional and a breach of the peoples’ trust in the commission and the security agencies.

But the APC in its reaction to the allegations by the PDP, said the decision to postpone the election has adversely affected the party.

The party described the PDP's allegations as idiotic.

State Chairman of the APC in Edo State, Anselm Ojezua stated that the APC and some other critical stakeholders were not consulted before the shift in the date for the election was announced.

He noted that the APC has effectively campaigned and marketed its candidate, Godwin Obaseki to the electorate as well as mobilized its members ahead of the election.
