09 December 2015, 17:40

Benin City - Eight chieftains of the All Progressives Congress (APC) have signified their intention to replace Gov Adams Oshiomhole as governor of Edo state when his tenure expires in 2016, reports NewsDay.

The eight have started lobbying party stakeholders, especially those likely to be selected as delegates that would choose the party's candidate for the election.

Those who have indicated interest in the race are Deputy Governor Pius Odubu, ex-Governor  Osarhemhen Osunbor, Charles Airhiavbere, Chris Ogiemwonyi, Osarodion Ogie, Kenneth Imasuagbon and Godwin Obaseki.

Although, Oshiomhole has not spoken on his succession plans, it is widely speculated that he is the final arbiter on who succeeds him.

He is likely to support a candidate from Edo South or Central senatorial districts, since he is from Edo North.
