The Deputy President hails from the same senatorial zone with the immediate past governor, Sullivan Chime.

Ekweremadu’s kinsmen under the aegis of Save Awgu Forum has said it is not part of any plan to adopt a governorship candidate for Enugu State ahead of the 2019 governorship election.

The leader of the group, Emperor Baywood Ibe, stated this on Tuesday while briefing newsmen,

He said the people of the area  have resolved to support the administration of  Ifeanyi Ugwuany, noting that after the second tenure of Ugwuany, anybody from the area can aspire to replace him.
