Ex-PDP ministers beg INEC to postpone Ondo election

22 November 2016, 07:04

Abuja - Former ministers of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) have called on the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to postpone the governorship election in Ondo by three weeks.

Newsday reports that the ministers made the call on Monday following a meeting they held under the aegis of the PDP Ministers Forum with the National Caretaker Committee of the party led by Ahmed Makarfi

Some of the former ministers in attendance were a former Minister for Aviation,  Femi Fani-Kayode, former Minister of Special Duties, Kabiru Tanimu Turaki,

Speaking at the end of the meeting Turaki who is the Chairman of the PDP Ministers forum, said the shift was necessary in order to resolve the legal dispute over the party’s candidate for the state election.

The ex- ministers' call is coming just a day after the party's National Caretaker Committee made similar appeal to INEC to postpone the election.

The All Progressives Congress has, however, urged INEC to ignore the call.

The party described the request by the PDP as “bizarre.”
