Abuja - In a development suggesting a
reversal of rival parties’ fortunes in the Rivers State, the People’s
Democratic Party (PDP) has reported a mass defection of All Progressives
Congress (APC) members to the former’s ranks.
These are said to be crossing the floor in reaction to
the ruling by the Supreme Court endorsing Nyesom Wike as governor.
Members of the APC from across 23 local government areas
of the state have reportedly defected.
Rivers PDP Chairman, Felix Obuah, said he planned to
receive some prominent leaders and members of APC.
He said the party was is very large enough to accommodate
everyone, including those who left the PDP in a huff for fear that the judgment
of the Supreme Court would not favour Wike.

“Like the father of the Prodigal Son, the PDP will still
receive all returnees with affection,” said Obuah.
“What is uppermost in the mind of Governor Wike is to
continue with his developmental agenda and take the State to the next level.”
He described the said mass defection of APC members into
the PDP after the Supreme Court judgment as unprecedented.
“PDP will not only give them a befitting reception but
will also carry them along in the scheme of things,” said Obuah.
In recent weeks, some members of the PDP have
crossed the floor to the rival APC following the uncertainty around the future
of Wike’s administration, whose election APC has challenged in court.
