Fresh crisis hits APC over boards’ appointments

25 January 2016, 11:45

Abuja - A fresh round of crisis is about to hit the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC), reports Punch.

The disagreement is over the appointments into boards of federal agencies and parastatals.

The dispute over the appointments is partly responsible for the delay in the reconstitution of the boards six months after President Muhammadu Buhari dissolved the former boards.

Leaders of the party are at loggerheads over names forwarded for consideration for appointments.

The dispute has pitted some party leaders at the state level and some newly-inaugurated members of President Buhari’s cabinet.

The two camps have forwarded different names to the Presidential Committee on the Reconstitution of Federal Government Boards of Parastatals, Agencies and Commissions.

This has led to accusations and counter-accusations of nepotism and favouritism against state party chairmen, governors as well as some leaders of the party.

It would be recalled that President Buhari had on July 16, 2015 approved the dissolution of the governing boards of federal parastatals and agencies and institutions.
