Fresh crisis hits PDP as governors withdraw from reconciliation process

19 October 2016, 13:44

Abuja - The crisis rocking the Peoples Democratic Party may not been resolved anytime soon, reports Leadership.

This is because governors elected under the platform of the party have pulled out of the peace process initiated by leaders of the party.

As a result of the action of the PDP governors, the inauguration of much anticipated PDP Reconciliation Committee, which was billed to hold on Tuesday at the Transcorp Hilton Hotel, Abuja by 4:00pm was cancelled.

The committee, if inaugurated, would have signaled a major step in cementing a peace process  between the aggrieved former national chairman, Sen. Ali Modu Sheriff, his faction and the Sen. Ahmed Makarfi-led Caretaker Committee’s faction.

Both camps according to News 24 have been holding talks on reconciliation, and are to widen the scope by setting up an expanded Committee to bring the aggrieved members back to fold from their different factions.

Makarfi and Sheriff had after series of meetings agreed to setup a reconciliation committee of 28 members, comprising 14 persons from both camps to smoothen the peace process.

The governors expressed reservations over the reconciliation with Sheriff citing his insistence on Jimoh Ibrahim as the party's candidate in the Ondo governorship election as against Eyitayo Jegede, who emerged under the platform of Makarfi’s leadership.

It was also learnt that the governors were miffed that Sheriff would inaugurate a parallel party executive for Delta State, despite the existence of a substantive party executive in the state.
