Gov Wada sets up hand-over committee

09 December 2015, 18:39

Lokoja - Governor Idris Wada of Kogi State has set up a transition committee to facilitate a smooth handover to the newly elected governor of the state, Yahaya Bello, reports Thisday

Wada, who lost his bid for a second tenure, will hand over to Bello of the All Progressives Congress (APC) on January 27, 2016.

The committee to be headed by the Secretary to the State Government, Prof. Olugbemiro Jegede, is expected to manage the process leading to the hand over on January 27.

The committee, Wada noted, is to work with a similar committee by the APC to ensure a smooth transition.

Wada also set up a steering committee to be headed by Deputy Governor Yomi Awoniyi.

He, however, vowed to challenge the result of the Kogi election in court.

The governor said the decision to challenge the result of the election in which the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) declared Bello as winner of the election is to seek proper interpretation of the law and relevant sections of the constitution and the Electoral Act in connection with the election.
