Gulak takes over as new PDP Chairman

31 December 2015, 13:40

Abuja - Former Political Adviser to ex- President Goodluck Jonathan, Ahmed Ali Gulak has reportedly assumed the Chairmanship of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) with effect from Wednesday, reports Daily Trust

Gulak’s spokesman, Ochuba Emmanuel in a statement on Wednesday said Gulak assumption of duty was based on the declarative judgment by the High Court in Abuja, on the 16th December 2015, which ordered Prince Secondus to vacate office as the Acting Chairman of PDP, not later than 29th December 2015 and hand over to Gulak or any other person from the North-East zone of Nigeria.

He stated that Gulak is now the authentic National Chairman of the PDP, pending the election of a national chairman.

Emmanuel said the new Chairman has cancelled the congresses already scheduled by Secondus, noting that it was illegal as the National Executive Committee (NEC) did not meet to ratify the dates

He stated that new dates shall be announced in due course after a NEC meeting.

He urged all PDP members across the country to remain calm and law abiding, saying the party would soon be re- branded.
