Gunmen shoot LGA chairman, 3 policemen in Benue

Makurdi - Few days to the Benue South senatorial rerun election, palpable tension has engulfed the senatorial district following attacks on politicians in the area reports Leadership.

Unknown gunmen have attacked the council Chairman of Otukpo local government area, Ijachi Ude, his orderly and two policemen who were drafted to the senatorial district to maintain law and order.

The commissioner of police, Paul Yakad, who confirmed the incident said the tragic incident happened on Monday night and Tuesday between 8 and 10 am.

He said council chairman who sustained gunshot injury was still on admission at the hospital.

He added that policemen had been deployed to the senatorial zone to maintain law and order ahead of the Saturday rerun election.

Former Senate President David Mark, the PDP senatorial candidate, had earlier raised alarm over alleged plot by Benson Abounu, the deputy governor of the state, and some APC chieftains to assassinate him.
