Umuahia - Governor Okezie Victor Ikpeazu of Abia State has sworn-in 17 newly elected council chairmen
The 17 council chairmen, who are all members of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) were declared winners of December 21 local government election conducted in the 17 council areas of the state, reports News 24.
Swearing-in the council bosses o Wednesday at Micheal Okpara Auditorium in Umuahia, the governor said his administration would not tolerate any form of corruption in the management of local government resources.
Responding, the Chairman of Umuahia North Local Government Area (LGA), who spoke on behalf of all the newly sworn-in chairmen, pledged their support to the Ikpeazu-led administratio
However, the All Progressives Congress (APC) according to Thisday said the swearing-in ceremony should not have held because democratic process neither took place nor observed.
A forum of APC chairmen and deputy chairmen accused the governor, PDP and the state electoral body (ABSIEC) of conniving to scuttle the electoral process.
In the 10-point statement signed by the Chairman of the forum of APC chairmanship and deputy chairmanship candidates, Hon Ebere Uzoukwa, and Publicity Secretary, Chief Ejiofor Okeudo, the forum called for fresh local government election.
