INEC approves continuous accreditation, voting for re-run elections

Abuja - The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has approved the use of continuous (simultaneous) accreditation and voting for pending court-ordered re-run elections on a pilot basis.

In a public notice issued on Thursday and signed by the Secretary to the Commission, Augusta C. Ogakwu, INEC said the decision was taken following consultations with major stakeholders and in the public interest.

The statement reads:

Following consultations with major stakeholders in the electoral process and public interest on the subject, the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) at its meeting held on Thursday, 11thFebruary, 2016 considered and approved the use of continuous accreditation and voting for pending re-run elections on a pilot basis.

"The Commission further approved that in line with the new procedure, the voting at these elections shall commence at 8:00am and close at 2:00pm."
