INEC fixes dates for Rivers, Imo rerun elections

Abuja - The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) will fix the date for ‎suspended rerun elections in Rivers, Imo, Kogi and Kano States on Thursday, reports Punch.

INEC Chairman, Prof. Mahmood Yakubu stated this Wednesday in Abuja during his second quarterly meeting with states Resident Electoral Commissioners RECs

Re-run elections ordered by the court in Rivers, Kogi, Kano and Imo states were cancelled or suspended by the commission following alleged widespread electoral malfeasance and violence which marred the exercise.

The INEC boss said the commission has begun consultations with critical stakeholders, including leaders of political parties and security agencies on the date for the rerun.

Yakubu stated the commission has scheduled a meeting in Abuja on Thursday where the actual date for the rerun elections will be fixed.
