INEC issues Imo senator-elect certificate of return

Abuja - The Independent National Electoral Commission, (INEC) on Thursday issued Benjamin Uwajumogu – Imo North senator-elect, his certificate of return as winner of the Imo North senatorial election, reports The Nation

Uwajumogu of the All Progressive Congress (APC) was declared winner of election, which was held on July 23 and July 28.

Uwajumogu according to News 24 scored 56 076 votes to beat his closest rival the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) candidate Chief Athan Achonu, who pulled 43 815 votes.

INEC‘s commissioner representing South East, Ambassador Lawrence Nwuruku‎ presented the certificate of return to him.

Speaking after receiving the certificate, he said his election was a confirmation that APC has acceptance the South East contrary to what the opposition party in the state was claiming.

Uwajumogu who was accompanied to the Abuja INEC Headquarters by a large number of supporters said it now time for the state and the nation to move on.
