Jigawa governor accused of stopping Sheriff from entering Jigawa

18 April 2016, 12:49

Duste -  The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Jigawa State has accused the state governor, Muhammad Badaru Abubakar of stopping the party’s National Chairman, Senator Modu Sheriff, from entering the state.

The acting deputy chairman of the PDP in the state, Aminu Jahun, said the police have denied them permission to host their National Chairman in the state,

He stated that the police has told the party that the All Progressives Congress (APC) has applied for police permit to conduct a rally on the same day that the PDP planned to host Sheriff.

Jahun said the police, therefore, advised the PDP to choose another date for its rally.

He said left with no other option they had to contact their national secretariat, so that Sheriff would reschedule his visit.

Jahun said to further confirm their claim of alleged connivance between the APC-led government and the police with a view to frustrate the PDP’s programme, the APC postponed its purported rally.

But the spokesman of the governor, Bello Zaki, dismissed the allegation, saying the state government has no hand in the directive given by the police.
