Duste - Local government elections in Jigawa State have been postponed until further notice, reports Leadership.
The exercise was earlier scheduled to take place in February.
Sani Abdullahi, Chairman of Jigawa State Independent Electoral Commission, said the commission took the decision to ensure enabling environment and equal opportunities to all registered political parties.

He noted that the commission received complaints and request for the postponement of the election from 18 political parties who have interest to participate in the poll but the time was too short for them to prepare for the elections due to the country’s economic hardship.
He expressed regret over the postponement and apologized to all stakeholders over the inconveniences the shift may have caused.
He urged those that have already purchased forms to keep them and use them when the new date is announced.
