Jonathan’s loyalists threaten to dump PDP over Sheriff

18 February 2016, 10:06

Abuja - The ripples being generated by the emergence of a former governor of Borno State, Ali Modu Sheriff as acting National Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) appear not to be simmering down, reports Punch.

Some ministers, who served under former President Goodluck Jonathan’s administration, have threatened to leave the party if Sheriff is not removed from office.

They accused some of the party’s influential members of imposing Shefriff on the party.

Spokesperson for the former ministers and a former Minister of National Planning, Dr. Abubakar Suleiman, said the emergence of the former Borno governor has portrayed the party as unserious.

He stated that the plan to reposition the former ruling party ahead of the 2019 general elections had failed with Sheriff’s emergence.

Suleiman said he and some of his colleagues might review their membership of the PDP should Sheriff’s candidacy be upheld.
