Abuja - Senator Ahmed Lawan, the preferred candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC) for the Senate Presidency and Senator George Akume on Thursday attended the inauguration of the Senate Standing Committees by the Senate President, Bukola Saraki, reports Thisday.
While Lawan was inaugurated as the Chairman of the Defence Committee, Akume, who was tipped to be the Deputy Senate President by Lawan’s camp was inaugurated as Chairman, Committee on Army.

The duo acceptance of the position may have finally put an end to the crisis rocking the Senate since Saraki emerged Senate President.
The decision of Lawan, Akume and other leaders of Unity Forum to accept chairmanship of the committees was the offshoot of a three-hour meeting of the group in the office of Senator Barnabas Gemade on Thursday.
Sixteen senators were said to have attended the meeting.
When contacted by newsmen, Lawan declined comment, saying he is on sabbatical for press interviews.
