Leadership crisis may affect PDP’s participation in Edo guber election – INEC

03 June 2016, 13:25

Abuja - The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has warned the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) that the leadership crisis rocking the party may affect its participation in the Edo governorship election, reports Premium Times.

The commission said the PDP risked not taking part in the election if the leadership crisis was not resolved soon.

INEC’s Deputy Director for Public affairs, Nick Dazang, who disclosed this on “Political Platform,” a programme on Ray Power FM Radio Station, on Thursday, explained that in line with the timetable and the schedule of the governorship election unfolded by the election, parties participating in the election were expected to hold their primary elections between June 2 and July 4 to pick their candidates.

Dazang according to Nigerian Eye, however, said the commission is yet to take a position on the crisis.

He said the commission’s delegation that monitored the party’s recent national convention had submitted its report but it was yet to decide on it.

He added that the commission has also not taken a position in terms of who is supposed to be the National Chairman of the party.
