As it happened: Buhari, governors storm Edo for APC governorship rally

Benin City - President Muhammadu Buhari on Tuesday led governors elected on the platform of the All Progressives Congress (APC), ministers to Edo State for the grand finale of the party’s governorship campaign.

The event took place at the Samuel Ogbemudia stadium in Benin, the state capital

The governors that attended the rally included Governors Akinwunmi Ambode (Lagos); Nasir el- Rufai (Kaduna); Yahaya Bello (Kogi),: Aminu Tambuwal (Sokoto); Bagudu Abubakar J(igawa); Simon Lalong (Plateau) and Atiku Bagudu (Kebbi)

Ministers in attendance included Batunde Fashola (Works, Power and Housing), Chris Nigige (Labour and Employment); Osagie Ehanire (Health); Uguru Usani (Niger Delta) and Aisha Alhassan (Women Affairs)

Also present were the National Chairman of the APC, John Odigie-Oyegun; the Deputy National Chairman (South), Segun Oni;  the National Organising Secretary, Senator Osita Izunaso; a national leader of the party and a former governor of Osun State, Olagunsoye Oyinlola

Buhari on arrival in Benin lead other notable party members to visit the crown prince and the Ediaken of Uselu, Eheneden Erediauwa, in his palace at Uselu.

At the campaign ground Buhari endorsed Obaseki, saying he remains the best candidate for the job and urged the people to vote him on Saturday.

He assured Nigerians that the country will soon get over the economic recession.

Speaking earlier, Gov Adams Oshiomole described the 10 years of the Peoples Democratic party (PDP)  rule in the state as evil.

He says he is pleased to attend the rally.

He commends the governor for all the great things he has done in the state.

He raises the hand of Obaseki and his running mate.

He notes that the two will take Edo to greater heights.

He assures Nigerians that the country will soon get over the economic recession just like overcoming the security challenges

He promises to consolidate on the achievements of Oshiomole 

He says his administration would be the Part 2 of Oshiomole 's government

He says he will create 200, 000 jobs in his first term

14: 55 National Chairman of the party, John Oyegun speaking.

He commends Oshiomole  for the great things he has done in the state in the last seven and half years

He officially introduces Obaseki and his running mate to the electorate.

14;20 Gov Adams Oshiomole now speaking.

He says is the happiest man today having being a political orphan for six and half years when the PDP was in government.

He says is proud of Buhari .

He says irrespective of the imperfection, Buhari is still the best.

He says he is proud to say that Buhari is not a thief.

The gov reels out the achievements of his administration in the last seven and half years.

He describes the 10 years of  PDP rule in the state as evil.

He says the PDP candidate, Osagie Ize- Iyamu is corrupt and people must not vote for him.

The gov says Ize iyanmu of was rusticated in UNIBEN for pouring acid on a student.

He says the difference is clear between the APC and the PDP candidates.

The gov ends his speech by urging the people to come on Saturday and vote Obaseki

14.15 Former governor of Osun State, Olagunsoye Oyinlola now speaking.

He is speaking to the Yoruba community in the state.

14.14 Minister of Labour and Employment now speaking.

He is speaking to the Igbo speaking people in the state.

He also urged them to vote APC in the election

14 10 Gov Yahaya Bello of Kogi State now speaking.

Being the youngest governor, he advised the youths present at the rally to mobilize others, so that the party can win the the election.

He says Obaseki is poised to take the state to greater heights. 

14.02 Gov Aminiu Tambuwal of Sokoto speaking.

He commended the Edo people for believing in the APC.

He urged them to vote Godwin Obaseki to that he can consolidate on the achievements of Gov Adams Oshiomole

13;55  Amdode begins his address.

He urges Edo people to vote for continuity so the state can continue to enjoy the dividends of democracy .

Ambode says Edo state needs Godwin Obaseki to make Edo state become like Lagos 

13;40  Chairman of National campaign Council for the APC Gov Akinwunmi Ambode about to give his address.

Other members of the council are on the podium with Amdode.

They include Govs Nasir -el rufai of Kaduna, Yahaya Belllo of Kogi, Abubakar Bagudu of Jigawa, Aminu Tambuwal of

13 20 State Chairman of the All Progressives Congress, Barrister Anselm Ojezua is now giving his opening address.

Benin-  President Mohammadu Buhari, his Vice, Professor Yemi Osinbajo, All Progressives Congress Governors and the National leadership of the partyl on Tuesday relocated to Edo state capital, Benin city for the grand rally for the Governorship Election of September 10.
