As it happened: # BayelsaElections Day 2

20 00 Incumbent governor, Seriake Dickson, has polled the most votes in the election of Southern Ijaw local government.

The Peoples Democratic Party candidate polled 23 081 to defeat Timipre Sylva of the All Progressives Congress, who got 10 216 votes.

A total of 39 679 votes were cancelled, according to the returning officer for Southern Ijaw.

Result collation still ongoing in Southern Ijaw LGA as officials take another break.

Results from six LGAs so far announced show that Dickson has 6 493 votes while Sylva has 4 042 votes

14.05 Ekeremor LGA

APC agent has contested the result. He said the result announced does not reflect what happened in the local government on Saturday.

He stated that collation officers at Ekeremor canceled at least 6 000 votes.

The PDP agent, however, wants the 257 votes allocated to APC in Ekeremor to be cancelled due to fraud

Yenagoa – The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) is set to announce the winner of the governorship election in Bayelsa state on Sunday.

This comes after the announcement was abruptly adjourned shortly after 02:00 on Sunday. The announcement is set to resume at 11:00.  

According to official results collated so far, Governor Seriake Dickson of Bayelsa State is maintaining a comfortable lead.
He is closely being pursued by the All Progressives Congress (APC) standard bearer and immediate past governor of the state, Timipre Sylva.

Official collated results from four out of the seven local government areas where elections were held on Saturday, show that the Dickson has widen his existing lead of 33 000 votes over Sylva.

According to the results so far, Dickson has a strong showing in Yenagoa, Sagbama and Ogbia Local Government Areas.
In Ogbia, Dickson got 1 290 votes to Sylav’s  139.

In Sagbama, Dickson scored 180 while Sylva got 119 votes.

Dickson also won in Yenagoa, the state capital with 839 votes while Sylva got 448 votes.

Sylva was only able to win in Brass Local Government.

He scored 1679 votes to Dickson’s 5.

The remaining councils are Nembe  Ekeremor and Southern Ijaw.
