Makarfi denies plan to dump PDP

08 August 2016, 14:45

Abuja - The Chairman of the National Caretaker Committee of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Senator Ahmed ‎Makarfi has denied reports that he was planning to dump the party to float a new party if the current leadership tussle between him and Senator Ali Modu Sheriff continues, reports Daily Trust

There were reports that Makarfi and some leaders of the party have resolved to form a new party should all the peace overtures to Sheriff fail.

The party has been in crisis several weeks after its last National Convention in Port Harcourt, where the tenure of the former National Chairman of the party, Senator Ali Modu Sheriff was terminated and Ahmed Makarfi appointed as acting National Chairman, reports News 24

Sheriff has refused to recognise Makarfi and has been parading himself as National Chairman, while also using the court to frustrate efforts to properly reposition the party.

All efforts to make Sheriff shift his ground have been unsuccessful..

It was reported that Makarfi and the other leaders plan to leave the party to form a new party with a new name.

But Makarfi on Sunday said he has no plan of dumping the party to form another party,

He said nobody can push him out of the party.
