Makarfi, Sheriff begin peace talks

08 July 2016, 11:05

Abuja - The end may be in sight for the lingering crisis rocking the leadership of Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), reports Thisday.

This is because factional leaders of the party, Senator Ali Modu Sheriff and Senator Ahmed Makarfi, have commenced negotiations on how to engender peace.

Sheriff and Makarfi are laying claim to the national leadership of the party.

A key member of the Sheriff group and the former PDP National Vice-Chairman (South-South) Dr. Cairo Ojougbo, who disclosed this at a press conference in Abuja on Thursday, said the Sheriff’s camp had made its terms for truce known to the Makarfi group through an intermediary.

Ojuogbo according to Daily Trust, however insisted that any negotiation for peace must always consider that Sheriff remained the authentic chairman until a properly constituted convention of the party said otherwise.

He said though Sheriff still sees himself as being legitimately in office, he was ready to pursue dialogue to resolve the crisis.

He also dismissed calls for the arrest of Sheriff for contempt of court, describing it as a ruse.
