Mark vows not to withdraw from re-run election

11 January 2016, 13:12

Makurdi - Former Senate president, David Mark has vowed not withdraw from the race to return to the National Assembly, reports Daily Trust.

Mark, who has been in the Senate since 1999, was sacked from the Senate in November 2015 by the Court of Appeal.

The court in its ruling on the appeal filed by the All Progressives Congress candidate, Daniel Onjeh, ordered a re-run within 90 days.

Mark was responding to the calls by the Benue State deputy governor, Benson Abounu asking him to withdraw from the race.

Mark, who spoke through the Director General of his campaign organisation, Abba Moro said he had no reason to withdraw from the election.

Moro, the minister of interior during President Goodluck Jonathan's administration, noted that Abounu had no justification to ask Mark to withdraw from the contest.

He urged Abounu to think of how to promote and protect the interest of his people instead of working at cross purposes with them.
