#OndoDecides: Rival parties clash ahead of poll

Akure - Supporters of rival political parties clashed on Friday and the day before, as electorates in Ondo State chose their next governor on Saturday.

According to Punch, one person was reportedly killed In Owo during a clash between the supporters of the APC and the PDP.

The report also added that properties worth millions of naira were destroyed in the clash while several people sustained injuries.

The deceased was simply identified as an APC chieftain in the area, named Arogun. According to an eyewitness account, the clash occurred following Jegede’s visit to Owo for a campaign.  There were also clashes in Iselu and Ehinogbe on Thursday.

Former PDP candidate, Jimoh Ibrahim’s campaign vehicles, billboards and offices were destroyed in Owo, Ondo and some other parts of the state on Thursday night.

Meanwhile, the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) said 1,659,186 voters were registered for the election but 378,606 persons did not turn up to collect their Permanent Voter’s Cards (PVCs).

A total of 1,280,580 voters with Permanent Voter Cards will elect the next governor of the state among the 28 contestants in today’s governorship election.

News24 reported that President Muhammadu Buhari on Wednesday called on the people of Ondo State to go out to the polling stations on November 26 to cast their votes for change.

The President made the call in a statement by his Senior Special Assistant on Media and Publicity, Garba Shehu, and said a vote for All Progressives Congress was a vote for progressive and people-oriented policies.
