#OndoDecides: Setback for Jegede as Appeal Court panel adjourns indefinitely

18 November 2016, 17:57

Abuja - The Court of Appeal, Abuja division, on Friday adjourned indefinitely the appeal of factional candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, in November 26 governorship election Ondo State, Eyitayo Jegede.

Jegede had appealed the decision of Justice Okon Abang of the Federal High Court, Abuja directing the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to substitute his name for Jimoh Ibrahim as the party’s candidate for the election scheduled for November 26.

The Justice Ibrahim Saulawa-led panel explained that it took the decision to adjourn indefinitely to wait for the decision of the Supreme Court on interlocutory appeal filed by Ibrahim.

The panel according to Leadership also adjourned all other pending appeals, including one filed by Chairman of the party's Caretaker Committee, Ahmed Makarfi, relating to the dispute over the governorship ticket of the PDP in the November 26 election.

Justice Saulawa also cited the motion file on Thursday before the Supreme Court by nine individuals led by the factional Chairman of PDP in Ondo, Biyi Poroye challenging the refusal of the appeal panel to stay proceedings, said his panel will await the decision of the Supreme Court on the pending application for stay of proceedings.
