PDP alleges Amaechi is plotting to kill Wike

06 December 2016, 14:31

Rivers - The People's Democratic Party (PDP) has alleged that the former Rivers state governor and transport minister Rotimi Amaechi is behind the plot to kill Governor Nyesom Wike.

The party said that the withdrawal of the Chief Security Officer (CSO) to the governor on Monday was a plot to get him killed.

In a statement released on Tuesday, the PDP claimed that the Rivers state commissioner of police Folusho Adebanjo was being influenced by the All Progressives Congress (APC) and the Inspector General of Police Ibrahim Idris was in support.

“This latest development has confirmed that the former Governor of Rivers state and now Minister of Transport, Rotimi Chibuike Amaechi in collaboration with his party's led federal government and its security agencies has finalized plans to assassinate the Governor of Rivers State. This is despicable and a complete affront and declaration of war on Rivers people using the apparatus of state.

This has again confirmed the serious desperation of the All Progressive Congress (APC) to win elections at all cost with no single consideration to the lives of Nigerians. It is common knowledge that since the inception of this government, the APC leaders have approached elections in the Country with different rigging methods.

PDP called on the police leadership to resolve the issue as quickly as possible to prevent the situation in Rivers from degenerating.

“We therefore call on the Inspector General of Police, IGP, Ibrahim Idris and the Director General of State Security Services (SSS), Lawal Daura to as a matter of urgency restore all the security details of Governor Nyesom Wike and to secure the Government House, Port Harcourt, Rivers State. Failure to do this before the Saturday, December 10, 2016 Re Run Elections is indirectly calling on Rivers people to resort to self help.”

News24 reported that ahead of the legislative rerun in the Rivers State, Governor Nyesom Wike raised the alarm that his Chief Security Officer has been withdrawn.

Wike said his CSO was withdrawn on Monday alongside several other policemen from Government House, Port Harcourt.
