PDP, APC bicker over rigging plots in Bayelsa rerun poll

23 December 2015, 11:34

Yenagoa - The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and the All Progressives Congress (APC) on Tuesday traded words over an alleged plot to rig the January 9, 2016 Bayelsa State governorship rerun election, reports Punch.

The PDP in a statement said it has uncovered fresh plot by the APC to rig the rescheduled election in the Southern Ijaw Local Government Area of the state.

The PDP noted that the APC is hell-bent on using federal institutions like the military, police, Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to rig the election.

But the APC in a swift reaction said it was aware of underhand tactics by the PDP candidate, Governor Seriake Dickson, to win the rerun at all cost.

The APC alleged that Dickson and his PDP agents had started bringing in thugs into the state ahead of the rerun in Southern Ijaw and other polling units in six LGAs to repeat what they did on December 5 and 6.

The party called on security agencies in the state to step up their intelligence gathering and track down all those plotting to cause mayhem in the rerun election.
