PDP cautions Buhari on Bayelsa polls

07 December 2015, 12:07

Abuja - The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has asked President Muhammadu Buhari to steer clear of the on-going Bayelsa State governorship election and allow the will of the people to prevail if he desires to sustain the nation’s democracy, reports Premium Times.

A statement on Sunday by the party’s National Publicity Secretary, Olisa Metuh said intelligence information reaching the party shows that President Buhari is neck-deep in his desperation to forcefully take over Bayelsa state from the PDP.

Metuh alleged that the President had directed a covert military and other security operations to assist the All Progressives Congress (APC) to rig the election, which has already been won by the PDP.

He said the plan is to inflate figures in favour of the APC and cancel PDP’s obvious victory in this election.

He urged the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) not announce any cooked-up result coming from Southern Ijaw, which does not reflect the wishes and aspiration of the people.

INEC had already announced results in five out of the eight local government areas in the state.
